Geography

Welcome_to_Warrington_sign_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1455435

In Geography this term we will be looking at the enquiry question 'How has Warrington changed over time?'.  We will be learning about our local area, how Warrington has become the town it is today and look at how Chapelford village has been built in place of the old Burtonwood Airbase. This will also support our work in History where we look at why RAF Burtoonwood is / was important to Warrington.

Useful Information

English

R

In English, we will continue to extend our knowledge of punctuation and grammar and continue to work on our reading and spelling skills. We like to link our English learning to texts and use these to inspire our writing. One of the texts we will be using this term is 'The Lion and The Unicorn' by Shirley Hughes that links in nicely with some of our history work to further our understanding of World War II.

History

In History this term, we are looking at the enquiry question 'Why is RAF Burtonwood so important to Warrington?'. We will study the airbase that was at Burtonwood, the role it played during World War II and the impact of World War II on Warrington.

Important Information - Times Tables Check

You may be aware that our children in Year 4 must complete a Times Tables check.

The Times Tables check is an online test for pupils in Year 4. Pupils are asked to answer 25 questions on times tables from two to twelve. They are given six seconds per question, with three seconds rest between each question. With this in mind, it would benefit your child if they work on their times tables at home using TTRockstars 'Sound Check' activity, as this works the same as the online test.

Thank you for your continued support!

Maths

In our Maths lessons this term, we will begin by continuing our work of multiplication and division using our formal written method. The children will begin by recapping multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, then they will move onto efficient multiplication and factor pairs. Lots of our work in division will be practical based and will link closely to our work on our times tables. Later on in the term, we will be starting our topic of area, fractions and decimals.

Science

In Science this term we will be finishing our work on Electricity before starting our unit of work on States of Matter. This will give us a good chance to retrieve our knowledge of materials and their basic properties / uses from KS1 before our extending our learning by looking at solids, liquids gases and The Water Cycle.
