Welcome to Beech Tree - Miss Heywood

Key Messages

Below are some reminders of our weekly routines and please also note some changes from Autumn Term. We try to keep to these routines every week but will occasionally change them to suit the needs of the children and any other additional events happening in school.

  • Our curriculum focus for this term is ‘Terrible Travels’ inspired by natural disasters and the impact these have on their surrounding environments and the people who live where they happen.

  • School planners will usually be checked and signed during guided reading or independent reading on a fortnightly basis.
  • All children will complete a whole-class guided read each week and also participate in other reading investigation activities. Wherever possible, children are also heard to read individually.
  • Children are expected to bring planners into school each day and take them home each day so reading and any other notes can be made in the book at school and at home.

  • Spellings will be sent home weekly. The children will be tested every Monday and the new spelling pattern will also be taught.

Times Tables:

  • We will be continuing our focus on times tables this year and the children, by the end of Year 4, are expected to know all times tables up to x12. We will be practising times tables daily. As well as TT Rockstars, there is also a website ‘https://urbrainy.com/mtc’ which allows the children to practise times tables tests. This is a really helpful tool, as the results of the test highlight the times tables that the child needs to work on. This will help you know which times tables you can then practise recalling with your child.

  • For the first half term, homework will be set on a Friday and this should be returned by the following Wednesday.  Please sign your child’s planner once it’s completed.
  • Homework will alternate between a Maths or an English activity linked to the unit of work they are covering in class so they should be able to complete the activity independently.  However, if your child feels they need some extra support to complete the activity they should ask in school.

  • The children will have PE on a Tuesday and a Friday this term. Children should have a full kit in school throughout the week as although we do have set days for these sessions, they may occasionally change. They can be left in school and will be sent home at the end of each half term.
  • Please remember that the Friday session is outdoors, so tracksuit/jogging bottoms and trainers will be acceptable in the cold weather. Please ensure your child still brings their normal PE kit too.
  • Please remember to tie back long hair on PE days and wear no jewellery for safety reasons.

If you have any concerns or questions, please get in touch by talking to me at the end of the school day, phoning or writing a message in the school planner (please make sure your child shows me their planner on that day so that I can acknowledge it).

Thank you for your continued support, I look forward to another busy and fun term.

Kind Regards,

Miss Heywood
