Prospective Parents

Reception 2021

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, events we would normally run are looking a little different at the moment. This has made us think more creatively about how we welcome you into our school as prospective parents. This is an important decision and it is vital you get to see the workings of Great Sankey Primary to make sure it aligns with your own ethos, values and beliefs for your child.

Please click on the picture below which will take you on a full virtual tour of the school, just as if you were attending an event in person. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school and being part of our #TeamGSP

Foundation Stage - Reception

During the Autumn term, the school holds an open evening and walk-rounds for prospective parents and families for the following September reception intake. These sessions allow parents and carers to meet with the Executive Headteacher- Mrs Briggs, the Head of School - Mrs Wilding and the Senior Leadership Team and to look around the school. It also enables families to listen to the vision and ethos of Great Sankey Primary and visit classrooms. The tour of the school is led by our House and Vice Captains from Year 6 to allow parents to get a holistic view of Great Sankey Primary.

Parents must then follow the school's admission policy procedures should you wish for your child to attend Great Sankey Primary. Once a place is offered in the Spring term, pupils and parents are invited back into school to meet with the staff. Early Years staff will also make contact to visit your child in their nursery or pre-school setting or at home during Summer term. These meetings then inform our class structures ready for September.

During June / July, the children are invited into school to experience a morning or afternoon session with their class teacher and new friends. In September, further transition is built in where the children will attend school part-time for either morning or afternoon sessions. Throughout this period, staff liaise with families to ensure a smooth and happy transition. In addition to this, we hold a further parent meeting in October as well as parents' evenings throughout the year and Stay and Play sessions where you are invited into your child's classroom to watch your child learning.
